Yoshinkan/Ryuseikan Aiki-Sambo Style incorporates blocks and strikes from Karate and Kempo, takedowns and throws from Ju-jitsu and Judo combined with Russian Sambo techniques and Japanese Aikido. Kancho Kenji Nakazawa, a 5th Dan in Yoshinkan Aikido, Aiki-jujitsu Shihan, 5th Dan Aiki-Sambo awareded by President Mixhael J Creedy of Nihon Budo Federation of Australia in 2015, Kenji is also a 2nd Dan Shotokan Karate, 2nd Dan Ju-jitsu, 2nd Dan Judo, 2nd Dan Kempo, 2nd Dan Kendo, 2nd Dan Ken-jitsu, 2nd Dan Iaido, Taiho-jitsu (arresting techniques) champion, ex-riot police (5 years) and trained under Undefeated World Sambo Champion Viktor Koga.

Sensei Terence Teraine 1st Dan Yoshinkan Aikido and Gojukan Aiki-jitsu was invited by Sensei Jacques van der Westuizen 3rd Dan Yoshinkan Aikido and 3rd Dan Shotokan Karate to attend a seminar held at the Alberton Dojo in 2002, given by Sensei Kenji 4th Dan Yoshinkan Aikido. The seminar lasted one hour, where Terence was selected by Kenji to be his personal Uke and the demonstration consisted of Aikido and Sambo techniques. Sensei Terence was instructed by Sensei Jacques (Senior Instructor), not to contact Sensei Kenji in any way and only he can communicate with him. The Alberton Dojo closed, due to Sempai Melanie Erasmus passing away, and due to Sensei Otto Pretorius, Sensei Jacques and Sensei Barry Neville all being removed from the Yoshinkan Aikido Foundation SouthAfrica (YAFSA), Japanese Karate International (JKI) and Aiki-jitsu South Africa (AJSA) National Board due to politics and they all retired including Sensei Derrick who moved to Pretoria.

In 2005, Sensei Terence contacted Sensei Kenji via Facebook and a friendship developed and the first International Yoshinkan/Ryuseikan Aiki-Sambo Seminar was planned and hosted by Sensei Terence 5th Dan and Sensei Suzette Van Der Merwe 1st Dan which lasted 7 days at the Tenchi Dojo (est. 2000), and the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre in 2014. Prior to Sensei Kenji 5th Dan coming over, he awareded Sensei Terence 5th Dan Dojo-cho (Head Instructor) and Aiki-Sambo South Africa was Est. 2014

After watching Sensei Terence’s Stunt Demo Reel, Sensei Kenji expressed his respect and praise for Terence’s Martial arts and atheletic abilities and he stated quote “I believe that you are the perfect candidate to represent Aiki-Sambo in South Africa” unquote. Besides being a Martial Artist, Terence has worked in the film industry since 2002 as a Stuntman and has training in Gymnastics, Ballet (1 Year), Yoga (1 Year), Pilates, Archery (Instructor), Horseriding, Modeling (2 Years) and Meditation.

Sensei Terence and Sensei Suzette covered all of Kancho Kenji’s travel expenses such as, airfare, airport taxes, visa, transportation, accommodation, local tour, vip protection, seminar, private, promotions, marketing, advertising, news, Rhino & Lion Park, celebration, laundry, holiday, airfare and  airport taxes (Capetown).

Sensei Terence already a 5th Dan was only interested in the Sambo of Aiki-Sambo, and stated that how is it possible for a 5th Dan to grade a 5th Dan? Sensei Kenji stated that it was only a formality and that Sensei Terence and Sensei Suzette should both grade Brown Belt in Yoshinkan/Ryuseikan Aiki-Sambo Style. So Sensei Terence agreed but made it very clear that he is not going to be teaching Yoshinkan/Ryuseikan Aiki-Sambo Style but Tenchikan Aiki-Sambo Style. An agreement was reached, and the first Brown Belt promotional gradings was done and the Brown Belt Ceremony all done at Sensei Terence’s Tenchi Dojo and when it came to the issuing of the certificates, Kenji had no formal certification for Aiki-Sambo and he requested Sensei Terence to use one of the Yoshinkan Aikido certificates where he couldn’t read the Kanji due to it not being in Japanese but Taiwanese, so Sensei Terence made all the changes and printed certificates which where signed, sealed and stamped by Kancho Kenji. So yes, where does a person have to design, issue and print their very own certificate in oder to be graded and still pay for the grading? So the second seminar was planned, organized and hosted by Sensei Terence, Sensei Suzette and Sensei Otto in 2015 and Sensei Gordon Douglas was invited and after another 7 day training seminar Sensei Terence and Sensei Suzette where graded the first Black Belts, no certificates where issued but the Black Belt Ceremony was done at Tenchi Dojo and Sensei Otto and Sensei Gordon Brown Belts aswell. After this seminar, Kancho Kenji requested Kaicho Hoosain Narker Founder of Ashihara Karate South Africa (AKSA), to design and issue certificates to all that graded, this included the Brown Belts in 2014, no Black Belts where ever issued till this day. During the private training for the Black Belts training Kancho Kenji injured both Sensei Terence and Sensei Suzette that they both had to recieve medical attention from Shihan Dr. Wollie.

Due to Sensei Otto and Sensei Gordon team up, and again introducing politics they both where removed from Aiki-Sambo SA. Kancho Kenji was also removed due to making demands for more money and after his holiday trip to Cape Town was funded by Sensei Terence and Sensei Suzette he gave a seminar without consulting Aiki-Sambo SA so therefore removed. Aiki-Sambo SA owns the intellectual property rights, and the name Aiki-Sambo is a registered trademark TM and the logo is also registered with Temple Arts Graphic Design CC.

Kancho Kenji has been coming over from Japan, to give instruction in Yoshinkan/Ryuseikan Aiki-Sambo Style and his a foreigner that has no work permit and is teaching illegally in South Africa. He is not allowed to use the registered name Aiki-Sambo and has been breaking the law. All the clubs or dojos that his been invited to, to teach have been warned. Sensei Otto is not the Style Head of Aiki-Sambo in South Africa due to the fact that Shihan Terence was awareded Chief Instructor All Africa and Style Head by Hanshi Dr Karel Wollie Wolmarans vice-president of Aiki-Sambo SA which is recognized by YAFSA, JKI,  AJSA and Kodokwan International Association South Africa (KIASA) all established in 1989.
